Within its Early Learning and Child Cafe bilateral agreement, Nova Scotia is taking another big step forward in making affordable, accessible and high-quality early learning and child care services available to local families. On October 15, the province issued an official expression of intent (EOI) to not-for-profit child care operators and those delivering the province’s Before and After school program. The EOI calls on local non-profit child care organizations to express their interest in expanding services to meet Nova Scotia’s goal of creating 9,500 new spaces for children under the age of six.

The issuance of the EOI is an important indication of the province’s intention to move quickly in implementing its historic $605 million bilateral agreement with the federal government. Becky Druhan, Nova Scotia’s Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, affirmed the province’s commitment and highlighted the province’s goal of making early learning and child care services available “in every community at a price that is affordable for all.”
